ABOUT ANDREW

Tech Crew - Splendour 2023-173-Cropped.jpg

Hi, I’m Andrew – a Media Production Specialist, Broadcast Engineer, Creative Producer, and Content Creator with a passion for delivering impactful media experiences. My journey in this dynamic industry began with a childhood love for the performing arts, quickly evolving into a fascination with the technology that brings live creativity to life. That initial buzz has driven my near-decade-long career across broadcast, live events, video, and audio production, where I thrive at the intersection of creativity and technology.

What I Do

I've dedicated my career to making compelling and engaging productions happen, bringing a hands-on approach to every project:

  • Broadcast & Live Events Production: I excel in the fast-paced world of live TV and events. My expertise includes directing and vision mixing intricate live TV broadcasts (like Notts TV's "East Midlands Decides"), studio engineering (notably vision engineering and racking 18 of 20 cameras for "Game On! for BBC Children in Need"), and managing complex technical systems for large-scale events (including major music festivals and BBC Music Introducing productions). I've also played a major role in the technical implementation and operation of Confetti X, Nottingham's flagship broadcast facility.

  • Video Production & Editing: I'm a seasoned specialist in creating high-end video content. My skills cover the full workflow, from filming interviews (both run-and-gun and studio-based) and lighting subjects to production coordination and meticulous post-production using the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Lightroom). I also have valuable experience with drone operation and photography. My work has driven successful campaigns for clients like Nottingham Trent University and Tileyard Education London.

  • Audio & Radio Production: My expertise runs deep in the world of sound. I'm adept at podcasting, managing full-chain audio production, radio show planning, and developing content strategies that build strong brand identities and engage audiences. As Director of Brand & Partnerships for NN Media, I spearheaded the rebrand of Northants 1, leading to a tripling of listenership, and overseeing the launch of new platforms like Northants Player and Northants Rewind.

My Approach & Expertise

I pride myself on a proactive, problem-solving approach. I consistently deliver quality by blending creative vision with technical precision, adapting quickly in dynamic environments. I have extensive experience with a wide range of professional broadcast systems including Ross Video (Carbonite, Ultrix, Furio, Dashboard), Blackmagic Design, Newtek Tricaster, various audio desks (Digico, Yamaha, Allen & Heath), lighting consoles (GrandMA, Avolites), and complex IT/Network infrastructures.

Beyond the gear, I'm genuinely passionate about empowering others. My roles have frequently involved providing one-to-one mentoring and hands-on technical training in small groups for FE/HE students (e.g., at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies and through work experience via Notts TV), helping them "Do it For Real!" My volunteer work with the NN Media radio training academy further underscores my commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent.

What's Next

I'm currently excited about the next chapter in my career, seeking full-time roles and new freelance opportunities in broadcast, live events, video, and audio production. Based in the East Midlands (Chesterfield, Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham), I'm also open to remote work, and available for formal commitments from August.

I'm always looking to connect with innovative teams and clients who value a hands-on media professional ready to deliver compelling and engaging productions.
